Draper council appoints Marcia Vaudry to fill interim seat after public interviews, vote 3–1

After a door-to-door round of two-minute public interviews from more than 40 residents, the Draper City Council voted to appoint Marcia Vaudry to fill the city council seat vacated by Calvin Roberts. The appointment covers the remainder of the year and requires the appointee to run in the 2025 election if she wishes to continue beyond the interim term. Council members emphasized experience and minimal transition time as reasons for the selection.
One council member explained the rationale for selecting Vaudry, citing long-standing civic involvement and prior service on city bodies: "I was looking for someone who was really engaged in Draper... I thought if we selected Marsha that the residents would be happy with that choice," the council member said. The motion to appoint passed 3–1. Councilmembers also encouraged the many unsuccessful applicants to consider other city committees or to run in the 2025 election.
The appointment was processed under resolution 24-60 and the council administered the oath of office later in the meeting. The council noted that the interim appointee will serve through January 2025 and then, if she chooses, run for election to a full term.
