Board approves new special‑education roles — behavior specialist and director of special education

District staff presented updated job descriptions and a revised salary schedule to address special education and behavioral support needs. The proposed behavior analyst (to be labeled "behavior specialist" if the board prefers that listing) would provide tier 2 and tier 3 behavioral supports, develop functional behavior assessments and intervention plans, and consult with teachers. "This is one that we do realize we need regardless," staff said about the role, with the caveat that community schools grant funding could shift the cost if awarded.
Trustees also approved a rewritten director of special education description to coordinate programming, state reporting and staff training, and approved an amendment to rename and clarify the director of student support position (and related salary schedule adjustments) to better reflect duties focused on attendance and suspension prevention. The board approved the job descriptions and salary schedule, asking staff to align titles and post positions appropriately.
