On goal two (safety) Young reported suspension rates declined to 5.8% (a 0.7‑point decrease) and described rising chronic absenteeism in 2023–24; she said the district is building attendance protocols and site monitoring. Young also previewed a relaunch of a summer academy and explained enrollment priorities: "We have an obligation to serve our unduplicated peoples first" — low‑income, English learners, foster and homeless youth — then teacher recommendations and, if needed, a lottery for remaining spots. The superintendent confirmed the district anticipates using Auburn Elementary as the primary summer‑academy site.
