The School Board of Alachua County voted to adopt two separate tentative items on July 30.
First, after a staff reading of Resolution 27‑03, the board moved and approved the tentative millage rates by separate vote. Dr. Rockwell emphasized that the district must levy the required local-effort millage to receive state funding, saying, "If we do not levy the required local effort millage, we do not get our state funding." Board member Miss Sertin clarified that a $16,400,000 figure shown in capital budgets reflected existing debt taken in prior years and a pledge of sales-tax revenues, not the as-yet-unadopted COPs issue.
The board then heard and read Resolution 27‑04, the tentative budget, listing a total of $610,840,438 for FY 2026–2027. Dr. McNeely moved the resolution and the board adopted it 5–0. During discussion, members raised the gap between the state's per-student increase and inflation and reiterated the board's obligation to pass a balanced budget under state timelines.
Both resolutions were recorded as passing by 5–0. The chair announced the next regular board meeting at 6:00 p.m., and adjourned the special meeting at 5:40 p.m.
