Residents tell Ogdensburg council blasting and dust from Braen quarry caused property damage; company to offer monitoring

Multiple Ogdensburg residents used the June 9 public comment period to report property damage, dust and safety concerns they attribute to blasting and truck traffic at the Braen Aggregates quarry.
Cristain Zamfir described damage and dust problems and said that calls to the quarry did not prompt help: “The Quarry is polite to you.” Julie Diaz reported foundation and sinking issues at her home and a dislocated chimney. Council members said they met with Braen, reviewed photos and were told the company would compile a list of affected residents, notify them before blasting, visit properties and place monitoring equipment at at least one site to record readings.
Council and staff urged residents to provide names and contact information so Braen can reach them directly about blast schedules and inspections. The mayor said Braen will reach out to people on the list and that residents may also contact the company directly. Several residents also asked the council to expedite inspections and responses.
