Ogdensburg council votes to initiate auction process for four borough properties, including First Aid Squad building

Councilman Ciasullo moved to initiate auction proceedings for Block 26.06 Lot 9 (First Aid Squad building), Block 26.06 Lot 6 with Lot 8 (pump station parcel), Block 21 Lot 27 (76 Kennedy Ave) and Block 26.09 Lot 39 (Marianne Estates). The motions passed by roll call; the First Aid Squad and pump-station parcels passed 4–1 (Councilwoman Cowdrick opposed those two motions) and the Kennedy Avenue and Marianne Estates parcels passed unanimously. Attorney Joseph Maddaloni advised the council that a formal authorizing resolution is required before the clerk may proceed to advertise or engage auction services.
Mayor George P. Hutnick and council members described the votes as steps to begin a formal disposition process rather than immediate sales. Materials referenced for the pump-station parcel included a well-abandonment report and tax records; council members noted that appraisals and additional review will follow before final disposition. Resident speakers urged the council to consider community uses for the First Aid Squad building; Borough Attorney Maddaloni said the council can pull a property from auction later if further review shows sale is not warranted.
What’s next: the clerk will be directed to take actions necessary to begin the auction process and staff will obtain appraisals and compile supporting documentation. The council indicated they will revisit any parcel if additional information suggests auction is not appropriate.
