Shirley Paris, a local volunteer who coordinates service clubs and student leadership activities, told the board she placed materials in trustees' packets highlighting November and December service work and student essay winners. Paris named advisers at the sites and credited Principal Christine Mayberry for supporting site-level leadership.
"So Auburn is recognized as a district of service," Paris said, outlining events such as a hometown-heroes luncheon and the Veterans Day essay winners. She noted Lucy Walker, a sixth grader, placed at the state level in the American Legion auxiliary essay contest and received a $125 prize. Paris said advisers and principals will present to the board at a future meeting.
