Board OKs architecture fee increase for playground project after DSA review identifies ADA work

CBO McReynolds presented an architectural contract amendment to pay an additional $89,900 for work to incorporate scope changes and accessibility improvements for a front-of-school playground at EVCaine. He explained the DSA review required additional construction documents and that the ADA-required improvements to the drop-off zone could cost roughly $200,000; those costs would be funded from restricted capital-facilities funds and not affect the general fund.
"The request seeks approval for architecture fees of 89,900 to address scope change and incorporate accessibility improvements into the construction drawings," CBO McReynolds said, and explained that moving the play structure to the front entrance reduces grading and retaining-work costs, offsetting the fee increase. Trustees asked about site access, fencing and an anticipated construction start (earliest April, with ADA drop-off work to occur in summer to avoid disruption). The board approved the contract amendment by roll call.
