The Glenwood City School District board approved a resolution to place a referendum on the ballot asking voters to give the district authority to exceed revenue limits by up to $750,000 annually for four years.
Superintendent (Speaker 4) explained the reduction of the request from the survey's $900,000 to $750,000 based on community feedback and fiscal modeling by Baird. He framed the referendum as granting authority rather than a mandate to spend the full amount: "It's the authority so that we can still continue with our programming," he said, noting the board may draw less than the authorized amount depending on revenue-cap planning.
Board members debated term length and alignment with state budget cycles; consultants advised a four-year term to avoid repeated back-to-back referenda. After discussion the board approved the resolution and a companion resolution directing the clerk and board president to finalize ballot verbiage and proceed with legal steps for the referendum election.
