Chair J. Marques told the Village of Mazon Judiciary Committee on Sept. 10 that the village will put its Republic Services garbage-collection contract out to bid and asked members to identify what should be included in the request for proposals. He said the proposal from Republic Services, as presented to the committee, would run five years with a $23.02 starting price per unit and a 5% increase each year for five years.
The proposal described by Marques would also remove a senior discount, move curbside recycling to every other week and eliminate year-round yard-waste pickup; committee members agreed that a seasonal yard-waste window from April 1 through Nov. 30 would be sufficient. The change could affect service levels and household costs for the village’s current customers; M. Murphy reported the village currently bills 371 residents for garbage and recycling pickup.
