Avalon approves largely grant‑funded mobile incident command vehicle and budget amendment

The Avalon City Council authorized the purchase of a new mobile incident command vehicle for the Fire Department and approved a related amendment to the FY25‑26 budget.
Fire Chief Michael Alegria described the vehicle as the first part of a new command capability and said the purchase is largely supported by grant funds: "This 1 is mostly highly funded. 50 over 59,000 of the 60 something is grant funded ..." The vehicle will serve as an emergency operations center in the field with lighting, screens, batteries and other deployable equipment.
Council moved to authorize the city manager to execute an agreement with Watson Fleet Group for a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and to amend the fiscal year budget to allocate the project funding. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
Next steps: staff will finalize the cooperative‐purchase agreement and return with the second phase of equipment as noted by fire staff later this year.
