CDD hears plan for 5–10 year storm surge resilience; advisory panel and interagency coordination proposed

Eric Long told the Board the community should be more proactive on storm surge protection and resilience planning, proposing the creation of an advisory/review panel and coordination with agencies such as the Army Corps if funding becomes available. He asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and staff or an engineering representative to help coordinate the effort and noted a multiagency approach will likely be necessary over a decade-long horizon.
Long cited a hypothetical topographic analysis about a past storm scenario: "a 10’ to 12’ storm surge could have caused 45% to 55% of the community to be flooded," he said, and recommended studying what could be done inside and outside the CDD boundary. The Board reached consensus that Mr. Long and Mr. Merrill will assist and authorized Mr. Krebs to provide help as necessary.
