President Beard and the Jacksonville School District #117 Board of Education heard financial updates and a tentative amended budget at the May 20 meeting. Rick Cunningham, the district's chief financial officer, told the board, "The district is 83% of its way through the fiscal budget year. We are $2.2 million below April or 2025." He said the tentative amended budget reflects those revenue pressures.
Cunningham added that the district currently expects "a 2.9 million deficit for FY26." The presentation did not include a formal vote on adopting a final amended budget; the materials were presented for board review and will inform future budget planning. Board discussion noted that the revenue shortfall is driven by timing and declines in state and federal payments rather than increased spending, and that the district's fund balances provide some cushion against next year's categorical reductions.
