District staff presented the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) and its tradeoffs at the June 24 meeting. Moore cautioned that "the risk the district runs into is that the government can always do away with the CEP Food program," a point the Board considered while discussing equity and whether to expand CEP participation or continue summer meal service. Board members expressed interest in school equity and the possibility of continuing meal service through the summer, but also raised concerns about the district-bearing costs for partial participation.
No formal motion to change CEP participation was made during the meeting; the discussion was informational and flagged as a budgetary and policy risk that staff may revisit in a future session.
