Board approves multiple MOUs with JEA, adds girls wrestling coach and deans' stipends

The Board unanimously approved multiple MOUs with the Jacksonville Education Association (JEA) at its June 24 meeting, including agreements on bereavement leave, adding a girls head wrestling coach at Jacksonville Middle School (JMS), and annual stipends for deans and an athletic director at JMS and elementary schools.
Mrs. Wilson moved, and Mr. Lonergan seconded, to approve the MOUs; each motion passed with unanimous roll-call votes. On the girls wrestling position, Mrs. Lashmett explained the change, saying, "IESA just recognized girls wrestling as its own individual sport so it no longer has to be coed." The Board approved an MOU to add a head girls wrestling coach for JMS and approved stipend arrangements intended to help fill dean positions at elementary schools and to support the JMS dean while he completes his Assistant Principal license.
Board members recorded no dissent and asked only clarifying questions in open session. The MOUs are intended to formalize compensation and role changes with the teachers' association; the district will implement the stipend payments as part of the 2026–27 compensation schedule.
