The Illini Central CUSD 189 Board of Education on May 21 approved a tentative amended budget for fiscal year 2026 and set a public hearing for Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the district Professional Development Room. The motion to approve the tentative amended budget was made by Kent Renken and seconded by Brock Boyd and carried by voice vote 7-0.
At the same meeting the board authorized the superintendent to make expenditures between July 1 and the formal FY27 budget adoption (roll-call vote 7-0) and approved routine procurement actions. The board approved the milk bid for SY27 with Prairie Farms (roll-call vote 7-0) and approved a three‑year intergovernmental agreement with the Mason City Public Library for cooperative library services; that IGA passed 6-0 with one abstention recorded by Boyd. The board also set the amended-budget hearing notice for June 18, providing the public an opportunity to review the amendment prior to final adoption.
The board's actions followed a brief financial report in which Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Durbin reviewed the tentative FY26 budget amendment. No public comment on the budget was recorded at the meeting. The district's next regular meeting is scheduled for June 18, 2026, when the hearing on the amended budget will be held.
