Oakhurst Elementary reports PBIS rollout, new reading curriculum and back-to-school events

A representative for Oakhurst Elementary highlighted school-level accomplishments and plans for the coming weeks.
Tim McGrew (speaking for OES) said the PK and kindergarten kickoff on Aug. 13 had strong turnout and staff and students are positive about schedule changes. He described the school's PBIS program relabeled "Eagles SOAR" and said primary-grade teachers are implementing a research-based reading curriculum introduced last year.
The presenter listed electives recently opened to students — Spanish, robotics, arts and crafts, cinema and sports electives — and noted staff are preparing Back-to-School Night and a Grandparents/VIP lunch scheduled for Sept. 9. McGrew said staff also have a psychologist intern and new staff hires at the elementary level.
Trustees thanked school staff for their summer work and noted the positive start to the year; no board action was required for these informational items.
