District reports CAASPP decline; staff to review curriculum, fidelity and interventions

Staff said they compared the district to other Madera County districts and reported the district was sixth of eight in ELA at 32.03% meeting or exceeding standards and fourth in math among county peers. The presenter said results were for all students combined and that disaggregation by subgroup was not included in the presentation.
To respond to the decline, staff outlined next steps: a teacher survey on curriculum, outreach to publishers for sample materials and demos, on-site fidelity checks of new programs (for example, science-of-reading initiatives in K-3), targeted professional development, and training so teachers and students can use testing accommodations correctly. Board members urged attention to foundational skills and cross-district consistency of interventions.
No specific curriculum adoption vote took place at the meeting; staff said they will return with additional materials and clarification on the interventions and publisher proposals.
