Board recognizes longtime staff retirees and welcomes new administrators

Rantoul City Schools recognized several employees retiring after long service and introduced new or promoted administrators who will serve in leadership roles for 2026-27.
Tom Magers read recognition statements for Lori Bednarz (PreK Director since 2020), Karen Bergman (J.W. Eater clerical staff), Susan Blackwell (26 years as a teaching assistant at J.W. Eater), and Debby Wilcoxon (district food service leader since 1997). The minutes record Bednarz saying, "Thank you for trusting me to lead the PreK Program these last six years... I look forward to continuing watching the PreK Program flourish for Rantoul City Schools." Debby Wilcoxon added: "I would like to thank RCS for being an amazing place to work for 29 years. It's been a fabulous ride." The district recorded commemorative gifts and donations in their honor and described retirement plans for each staff member.
The board also announced staffing moves: Cassie McConkey will assume the new Behavioral MTSS Specialist role and Jason Peterson will become Assistant Principal at Eastlawn. Administrators highlighted McConkey's background in behavior supports and Peterson's decade of educational experience as rationale for the appointments.
