Hocus Elementary staff presented accomplishments and classroom strategies that aim to improve student engagement and readiness for learning. The presenter described changes in how teachers set expectations for iReady diagnostics and the use of retake opportunities and incentives; "We had a 170 students participate," the presenter said, describing a movie incentive tied to diagnostic completion.
The site also highlighted Battle of the Books county results, SEL assemblies by the Super Eagles Performing Troupe, and a district heart-health challenge led by the district nurse. Staff described ongoing work to align behavior supports with academic goals and said they are promoting growth and effort as well as proficiency in classroom recognition systems.
Board members praised the classroom-level initiatives and suggested continuing to share successful practices across sites.
