Board approves two contracts over $50,000 for speakers and summer professional development

The Rantoul City Schools Board authorized two contracts greater than $50,000 at its April 16 meeting: CDW for public-address speakers and the Center for Responsive Schools for Responsive Classroom summer professional development.
The CDW contract for public-address equipment was listed at $65,800 with a 10% contingency. The Center for Responsive Schools contract for summer professional development was listed at $92,540 with a 10% contingency. Board member Debbra Sweat moved to approve the contracts and Moto Johnson seconded; the board carried both items unanimously (6–0, one absent).
During discussion about consent and bills, Superintendent Dr. Woods explained some line items and procurement questions, saying the district uses a number of outside attorneys for specialized legal matters and that afterschool food costs are reimbursable. "We have 5 different attorneys that specialize in different areas of law," Dr. Woods said in response to a question about attorney fees.
