Board reviews disciplinary data, notes higher ISS/OSS incidents and 202-student enrollment projection

The Rankin School District #98 Board reviewed student disciplinary data for the 2025-26 school year and compared it with a nine-year average. Dr. Matt Gordon said in 2025-26 the combined in-school suspension/out-of-school suspension (ISS/OSS) total was recorded as 33.0 incidents involving 21 different students, and he noted that the disciplinary counts were higher than the nine-year average shown in the board's table (the minutes list a nine-year average total of 155.0 incidents).
Dr. Gordon said behavior among younger students appeared to drive some of the increase this year, but he expressed confidence in the administration's application of disciplinary procedures and thanked Mr. Beard for his efforts. The board encouraged continued fair and appropriate administration of discipline and asked administration to keep the board apprised of trends and follow-up actions.
