Rantoul reports 92.1% attendance but rising discipline incidents; board targets behavioral support

Superintendent Dr. Woods presented the Rantoul City Schools #137 2025–2026 end-of-year report, saying: "Attendance remained generally stable, with the District's internal attendance rate at 92.1%." He told the board that student behavior was among the district's most significant operational and instructional challenges this year because office discipline referrals and exclusionary consequences increased.
To address behavior, the district added kindergarten staffing support, created an MTSS Behavioral Supports position and team, expanded stakeholder review through the Parent-Teacher Advisory and Behavioral Interventions Committee, and established a Special Board Committee for Student Equity. The district also said it will keep the CARE program but primarily use it as an in-school suspension for short-term placements for grades 2–5.
Trustee Debbra Sweat requested further discussion about classroom technology and asked for survey feedback on the companion schools initiative as part of broader efforts to strengthen supports for students.
