The Rankin School District #98 Board approved the 2026-2027 Tentative Budget at its June 22 meeting, voting 4-0 to adopt the plan. Superintendent Dr. Matt Gordon told the board the district remains in generally strong financial shape with "healthy fund balances," but that the FY27 Tentative Budget predicts deficit spending of -$39,429.88. He said the FY27 budget was prepared less conservatively than recent years and that continued monitoring and analysis will be necessary.
Dr. Gordon cautioned the board that, depending on revenues and expenditures during the year, the district might need to begin a measured approach to finding expense reductions; he emphasized the district was not in a position to initiate cuts as of the meeting. Member Nena Cox moved to adopt the FY27 Tentative Budget and Member Brittany Webb seconded; the motion carried on a unanimous roll call vote.
