San Gabriel issues proclamations for U.S. 250th, Juneteenth and Mosquito Awareness Week

Mayor Eric L. Chan read proclamations honoring the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and declaring June 19, 2026 as Juneteenth Day in San Gabriel. He invited residents to the city’s Independence Day celebration on July 3, 2026 at Gabrielino High School.
The council also recognized National Mosquito Control Awareness Week (June 21–27). Councilwoman Menchaca, who serves as a district vice president, described two free services available to residents through the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District — a property-consultation program and a "Mosquito 101" presentation for neighborhood groups. Jerry Morales, a board clerk with the district, told the council, “This week provides an important opportunity to raise awareness about the serious public health risks that mosquitoes pose,” and noted local concerns including West Nile virus and recent locally transmitted dengue cases in Los Angeles County. The district provided its website, sgvmosquito.org, as a contact point for residents seeking assistance.
The proclamations were read into the record and the invited guests joined councilmembers at the dais for photographs.
