Draft Sept. 2026 report to lead with family choice; commissioners urge adding workforce and local stories

Commission members urged a dual framing: use personal family stories to show household-level impact, and use an economic lens for legislators and business leaders. One commission member (functional label: Commission member) summarized statewide funding and suggested clarifying the mix of state and federal dollars, saying, “78,000,000 is state general funds for CCAP, that 128,000,000 is CCDF for CCAP, and a 125,000,000 is federal dollars with Head Start.” Members recommended highlighting workforce solutions—registered apprenticeships, CDA credentials and high-school pathways—to create staff pipelines and proposed pilot programs or state-funded supplements to bridge wage gaps for entry roles.
Staff invited commissioners to submit names for family testimonials and local business voices to be featured in report call-outs. Karen Powell said the department will circulate a full draft at the commission’s next meeting.
