The Louisiana Early Childhood Care and Education Commission elected Mary Beth Hughes as chair and Monique Rouge as cochair during its meeting. Dr. Lee Buissonier moved to elect Hughes; Dr. Susanna Craig seconded the motion. The commission then moved to elect Monique Rouge as cochair; Dr. Paula Polito offered the motion and a second was recorded. The chair announced the motions passed.
Barry Carter, assistant superintendent in the Office of Early Childhood Care and Education at the Louisiana Department of Education, opened the roll call and the officer-election agenda item and asked nominees to state acceptance and agency affiliation. Monique Rouge responded, "Yes. I do. I am honored." The commission formally congratulated both officers and invited them to sit at the front table with LDOE staff.
No formal opposition or roll-call dissent was recorded during the election motions. These elections provide the commission with an officer structure to lead meetings, stakeholder outreach and next steps on the commission's agenda.
