Summary
Council discussed requests to the hotel-occupancy fund and directed staff to assume $50,000 of incoming revenue and to reserve $20,000 of the fund balance for signage; council will partially fund requests (Chamber, Children's Museum, East Texas Athletics, CLI) while fully funding the community engagement specialist.

Staff reviewed the hotel-occupancy tax fund and a slate of requests submitted by local groups. The Presenter listed submitted requests: Chamber of Commerce $10,000; Children's Museum $10,004.75; East Texas Athletics $15,000; CLI $3,000; and a city community-engagement specialist request for $18,000 — total about $56,475 plus signage proposals. "Chamber of Commerce asked for $10,000," the Presenter said when reading the list aloud.
After discussion, council members directed staff to plan on $50,000 in projected revenue for the coming year and to restrict $20,000 of existing fund balance for signage work; with that direction staff provided a draft allocation that reduced most outside requests pro rata while fully funding the $18,000 community-engagement specialist. Staff will present formal resolution language during budget adoption to finalize allocations.
