The Chanute Unified School District 413 Board of Education voted to accept Crossland Construction’s bid to build the James and Jean Cooper Center for Early Child Development, approving a contract not to exceed $2,229,000 plus a $75,000 contingency. The motion was made by Bri Leroy and seconded by Jennifer Zywietz and carried by the board.
Board members emphasized facility preparations and related safety work. "I move to accept the bid from Crossland Construction not to exceed $2,229,000 plus a $75,000 contingency to begin construction at 1000 W Main," the motion record states. The board also separately approved a $26,925 asbestos abatement contract for the same site that will be reimbursed from the USD 413 Foundation. Trustees did not request additional public comment on the award during the meeting; construction scheduling and phasing were delegated to the superintendent and administration for implementation.
