Ellis County Conservation District outlines outreach, projects; NRCS reports major federal obligations

Linda O'Neil, district manager for the Ellis County Conservation District, told commissioners the district added staff this year, hosted farmer‑to‑farmer and soil health events, plans school outreach for fourth graders and intends to hire a summer intern. She gave state funding figures and program totals and described recent conservation projects — terrace rebuilds, windbreaks, a range planting and brush management efforts — noting 15 active applications in the office.
Dustin Kiley, acting supervisory district conservationist for NRCS, said NRCS helps bring technical assistance and federal dollars to the county. He reported EQIP obligations of "$534,671" for 2025 and said "Both those programs combined brought in will bring in, roughly $11,423,000, into the Ellis County through conservation practices and getting conservation on the ground." Commissioners thanked the district and encouraged school outreach and younger farmer recruitment efforts.
