Board recognizes student maintenance and technology workers for summer service

Flour Bluff ISD trustees and staff recognized student summer workers in maintenance and technology for summer work that included HVAC, electrical, plumbing, grounds and IT support; speakers noted students applied for positions online and gained technical and workplace skills.
The board paused to recognize student summer maintenance and technology workers who assisted district staff over the break. Speaker 2 (introduced at the meeting as Mr. Chapa) honored Ryder Whipkey and Mathias Lopez for their work with HVAC technicians, electricians, plumbers, grounds crews and custodial teams; trustees said the students arrived early, accepted responsibility and learned both technical and communication skills.
Mario (speaker 7) thanked technology student workers—named in discussion as Dean, Emily and Alexis—for taking on summer IT challenges, improving department workflows and bringing energy to the workplace. In response to a trustee question, the district confirmed the student roles were posted and filled through an online application process. Trustees and administrators praised the student‑worker program as a workforce pathway and encouraged continued recruitment.
