Board adopts 2026–27 budget despite state budget uncertainty

The Benzie County Central Board of Education adopted the 2026–27 budget on June 22 after a presentation laying out the assumptions used to build the plan.
Director of Finance Danielle Banasiak said district leaders had to rely on assumptions because the state had not finalized its budget. Key items included an assumed decline of 20 students districtwide, percentage‑based reductions for MPSERS, initial Title allocations, salary and benefit increases, and higher utility costs. Banasiak noted the district set aside a small amount for technology equipment and estimated many expenditures using three years of historical data.
The adopted budget incorporated those assumptions. Trustees voted to approve the 2026/27 Budget; the motion carried 7–0. Board members were warned that final numbers would be adjusted when the State of Michigan issues its budget.
