The Benzie County Central Board of Education approved Budget Amendment #3 on June 22 as part of a budget review that preceded the regular meeting.
Director of Finance Danielle Banasiak presented the amendment and a year‑end forecast. She stated, "The District is expected to end the year on a balanced budget," but cautioned that, "With the assumptive loss of revenue, the District is showing the potential for a $274,838 reduction in the fund balance at the end of FY27." Those figures were tied to assumptions the district made because the State of Michigan had not yet released a final budget.
Banasiak explained the amendment reflected slightly higher-than-expected total revenues and savings in expenditures outside of direct student services, and that many FY27 numbers were estimated from three‑year historical data. She also described key assumptions used in building the 2026/27 budget: an assumed 20‑student districtwide decrease, MPSERS reductions applied as a percentage, initial Title funding allocations, salary and benefit increases, and higher utility costs. The district set aside a small amount for technology equipment.
The board voted to approve Budget Amendment #3; the motion carried 7–0. Administration will adjust the FY27 budget once the state budget is finalized.
