Tony Kenestad, who the superintendent noted was giving his final board presentation, reported districtwide savings of "about $12,000,000," attributing the reduction to school closures, scope changes, bidding savings and a $10 million gym grant. He said the district will cancel projects tied to closed sites and move funds into higher‑priority items such as TK fencing at Brooktree and Summerdale, reconfiguring pod classrooms, additional music storage and replacement HVAC and paving projects at selected schools. "So that's great," Kenestad said of the contingency cushion created by the savings.
Board members asked about stakeholder input on project priorities and discussed EV‑charger access, battery backup feasibility and electrical circuit constraints; trustees asked staff to return with options and cost estimates. Trustee (unnamed) moved, and another trustee seconded, to include a study of battery backup and single‑use all‑gender restroom signs for portable/pod restrooms in the priority list for future costing; the motion passed. The board approved the bond‑list revision and several change orders for fire alarms, windows, and exterior painting during the meeting.
