"I really want to make a flag that I really wanna ensure that our transgender students are still protected even underneath this board policy," Trustee Haug said.
Trustees discussed the difference between policy language and day‑to‑day supports (student support plans, site practices) and acknowledged the district’s obligation to follow constitutional and federal guidance while maintaining support systems for vulnerable students. The board approved the policy for a first reading by roll call with three trustees voting yes, one voting no and one abstaining.
The vote advances the policy through the board’s formal process; the administration indicated it will continue to uphold support plans and procedures for students while monitoring legal developments.
