District assessment staff presented the 2024–25 SBAC/CAASPP results and next steps to the board.
Assessment manager Maricela Klizkovich said the district’s overall ELA proficiency (levels 3–4) stood at 65% and math at 55% for grades 3–8. She highlighted subgroup disparities: Asian students scored above standard (average ~3.2), while Hispanic students and English learners trailed (reported averages near 2.1 and 1.6 respectively). The presentation noted newcomer students who had not taken ELA SBAC affected subgroup comparisons.
Staff described initiatives to address the gaps: expanded benchmark assessments (new math benchmarks this year), PD on tools such as Freckle (ELA/math) and Laleo for primary grades, partnerships with the Silicon Valley Math Initiative and use of performance tasks to boost scores. Trustees requested a deeper presentation on targeted supports for Black, Hispanic and English‑learner students and praised staff for beginning work to unpack data with principals.
