The Forest Hills Board of Education on Dec. 8 voted to ratify a prior decision to opt in to Section 31aa mental-health and school-safety funding and authorized the superintendent to rescind that opt-in by Dec. 30 if litigation challenging the funding is unsuccessful.
Chair opened the matter by asking for a motion "that the Forest Hills Board of Education adopt the resolution to ratify the authorized official's previous action in opting in the 31 double a funding and to authorize that the superintendent to authorize the superintendent to rescind the opt in by December 30 if the litigation challenging the 31 double a stipulation is unsuccessful?" After discussion of the court date and the option to reconvene, the board conducted a roll-call vote. The transcript records seven affirmative votes: Doctor Michelle (yes); Miss Simone (yes); Mister Moore (yes); Mister Collie (yes); Miss Troy (yes); Doctor Dawson (yes); and Missus Van Meyer (yes). The motion carried.
Board members said the resolution preserves the district's ability to accept the funds now while allowing a prompt rescind decision if a court rules against the funding. One member clarified the board could reconvene after the court decision if circumstances changed. The board did not record dissenting votes in the transcript.
Next steps: the superintendent has authority through Dec. 30 to rescind the opt-in if litigation outcomes require it; the board said it could reconvene after the court ruling if necessary.
