The Lake Shore Board of Education on July 9 heard a plan to replace its existing policy set with Thrun model policies that district staff say align with Michigan and federal law. "All Board members had received the policies," Dr. DiPonio told the board as he outlined a schedule for review and implementation.
Dr. DiPonio said the district will hold a further review meeting on July 23, 2026, and that "7/27/26 will begin to repeal the current policies except the bullying policies." He said a subsequent meeting will address repealing and replacing the bullying policy. Administrators were told to prepare handbook revisions, with an August 3 meeting proposed so administrators can update handbooks in time for the August regular board meeting. The district intends to move administrative guidelines and handbooks to the Thrun model next summer.
