Lake Shore administrator outlines proposal to ban student phones from building entrance to exit

Dr. DiPonio described a proposed enforcement regime for the district's cell-phone policy that would prohibit student phones from building entrance to exit and record incidents in PowerSchool.
"Cell phones will be prohibited from building entrance to exit," he said, and added that waivers would be available for device use for health issues and that staff would be asked to limit their own phone use. He said the handbooks are being revised to remove outdated policy text and that the board will review the cell phone policy on Aug. 3, 2026. Dr. DiPonio also stated that "No meal deliveries (such as DoorDash) will be permitted."
Administration described PowerSchool as the record system for infractions and said the district plans to publicize the change and address handbook language before implementation. The board did not vote on final language at this meeting; the item remains scheduled for board review on Aug. 3.
