The Ionia County Intermediate School District Board of Education unanimously adopted a resolution on April 16 calling a special election for Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, to renew and restore a special education millage. The ballot proposition would renew the currently authorized .4013 mill for 10 years (2027—636) and add .1323 mill to restore millage reduced under the Michigan Constitution of 1963 for a combined rate of .5336 mill.
The board's resolution directs that ballot language be certified by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, requests publication of required notices in the Daily News and asks election officials to provide a proof copy of the ballot prior to printing. The resolution authorizes the superintendent to adjust Exhibits A and B in consultation with election counsel if necessary to reflect permissive legal language.
Board Secretary Amber Rood moved the resolution and Member Brian Talbot supported it; the motion passed by roll-call vote with all members present voting in favor. The resolution includes the full ballot text and a summary for public notices; the district estimates that, if approved and levied in 2027, the restored and renewed millage would generate approximately $1,509,968 in local property tax revenue.
