Jason listed county device and infrastructure counts—"We have 252 desktop computers on campus, 710 laptops, 580 phones, 443 tablets and iPhones, 15 physical servers hosting over 135 virtual servers"—and described backup needs (approximately 888 terabytes of backups). He said the county supports 562 email boxes (now 100% in the cloud) and that Microsoft Teams usage and OneDrive/SharePoint storage levels have grown substantially.
On cybersecurity, Jason said phishing reporting and testing have reduced click rates from roughly 6% to the low‑2% range; he said the county is implementing more aggressive tagging and real‑world testing to lower click rates further. He emphasized vendor diligence and redundant data centers as mitigations to cloud‑vendor outages.
Jason announced two forthcoming IT policies: 1) an AI‑use policy that will restrict what types of data (no private, personal, HIPAA or credit‑card data) can be entered into AI platforms, and 2) a social‑media policy limiting non‑job social‑media access from county PCs (mobile access allowed for roles that require it).
Why it matters: The county's IT footprint, reliance on cloud services and growing use of AI tools create both operational opportunities and cybersecurity obligations; the new policies aim to reduce data‑exposure risk while allowing controlled innovation.
