Planning commission forwards several land‑use map amendments to County Board
Summary
The commission recommended multiple land‑use map amendments to the County Board, including approvals for Witala (RR‑5), a Minnesota North District LCMS parcel (to commercial for an electrician buyer), and Engholm Acres (approved earlier) — all subject to the County Board review on July 8 for some items.

At the June 18 meeting, the commission forwarded several land‑use map amendment recommendations to the County Board. The board recommended approval for a request from Dale and Julie Witala to change 40 acres from agricultural forested to rural residential 5 (applicant noted participation in the Camp Ripley ACUB program and intent to preserve most acreage as agricultural). Township testimony had recommended RR‑10, but commissioners found the RR‑5 request compatible with surrounding parcels and moved to recommend RR‑5.
Separately, agent Jake Lee presented a request by Minnesota North District LCMS to amend a parcel from RR‑1 to commercial, saying an electrical contractor plans to purchase the property and expand an existing business. Staff noted wetlands limit the buildable area; the highway department emailed that there were no adverse county‑road impacts and the commission added that email to the file before voting to recommend approval.
All land‑use recommendations will be considered by the County Board; Engholm Acres and other items carry conditions noted in staff reports (for example, final plat submittal timed to quiet‑title resolution).
