Board approves rezoning in St. Matthias Township despite township preference; one commissioner records no vote

Commissioner Corning verbally explained he would vote no not because he opposed the county's decision, but out of respect for St. Matthias Township supervisors who prefer 10‑acre zoning: "I'll be voting no on this... it's out of respect for the St. Mathias township supervisors," he said. Despite that recorded dissent, the motion to approve was moved and seconded and the board approved the amendment by voice vote.
Staff reminded the board this area had its comprehensive plan updated last year, which changed some areas from R10 to R5; the Planning Commission developed findings of fact for the board's packet.
