Northland Arboretum wins regional designation; county approves resolution to pursue state park funding

Trevor Pumnia, speaking for Northland Arboretum, told the Crow Wing County Board that the site recently scored 429 on the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trail Commission evaluation and has received regional designation. "We are the 2nd park in Crow Wing County to receive regional designation," he said, and asked the board to approve a resolution allowing the county to submit grant applications.
Land services staff confirmed the designation and explained the designation and a master plan are prerequisites to apply for DNR and Greater Minnesota funding. Pumnia said the arboretum is not requesting county matching funds at this time and will pursue grant rounds as available. Commissioners moved to approve the resolution; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
The action allows the arboretum to apply for competitive funding and to reapply in future grant cycles if unsuccessful in a single round. The board invited arboretum staff to the soft opening of its bike park over the coming weekend.
