The Crow Wing County Board opened a public hearing May 27 on revisions to the county solid-waste ordinance and later adopted a resolution to align the solid-waste ordinance language with recent land-use changes.
Resident Brett Lehman urged the board during public comment to go further than the proposed changes and "completely eliminate restrictions on the number of inoperable or unlicensed vehicles a landowner may keep," calling limits "an overreach of government authority that undermines the core principles of personal freedom and property rights." Board members asked staff questions and closed the hearing by motion.
Staff explained the proposed ordinance language would clarify that two inoperable or nonlicensed motor vehicles (abandoned vehicles or parts) remain allowed unless otherwise regulated under land-use articles, and in certain zones allow up to 10 unlicensed vehicles (one per acre). After discussion the board adopted a resolution to approve the revisions by voice vote.
