Commissioners transfer $1.5M from general fund to cover jail shortfall after sales-tax vote failed

"The public spoke. 70% said no to a sales tax," Moore said during the meeting while outlining the board's approach to balancing the $89 million budget. Commissioners said they shaved department budgets and made targeted transfers to cover critical operations while continuing to evaluate first-quarter revenue figures.
The transfer was adopted by motion and roll call, with Moore, Gallagher and Riddell voting aye. Commissioners said they will continue to monitor revenues and may adjust departmental allocations later in the year based on updated financials.
