Supervisor: Cemetery Board may set its own residency rules

Supervisor Clydus Gray reported at the Feb. 11 meeting that he had contacted other Illinois township officials to ask whether residency requirements for Cemetery Board members were prescribed at the state or township level. According to Gray, the responding officials said there are no definitive statewide guidelines and that residency criteria are typically left to each Cemetery Board’s discretion.
Gray said he relayed that guidance to the McLeansboro Township Cemetery Board so it can determine its own requirements. The Board did not take a formal action on the matter at this meeting; Gray’s announcement was recorded as part of the New Business discussion.
