Albany board approves 2026–27 student and staff handbooks with attendance rule for competitions

Middle School Principal Hannah Carlson presented the 2026–27 Secondary Handbook and the board approved it with a key eligibility change: to be eligible for a competition, a student must be in attendance for the entire school day, and absences to attend competitions must be preapproved at least 24 hours in advance with documentation; extenuating circumstances will be handled case‑by‑case.
The board also approved the 2026–27 Elementary Handbook and the Staff Handbook with edits. The Staff Handbook revision removes Travis Okerlund's name from the welcome note and updates Part 6 on Minnesota Paid Leave. All handbook approvals were recorded as supported by all present at the July 8 meeting.
