McLean public works: arsenic testing, lift station pump problems and planned meter replacements

Public Works Director Greg Ummel updated the Board of Trustees on Jan. 5 about several infrastructure concerns and staffing plans. "Arsenic Level testing [was] sent out and will take approximately two months for results," Ummel said, and he reported repairs to a detention tank (with help from Lonnie Kirby) and a problem with a lift-station pump that will require further work.
Ummel said Illinois Valley Construction completed certain water and sewer hookups and that "Wyatt is doing the meters that need to be replaced and/or re-programmed" with an anticipated completion by the end of February. President Daniel Biehl said he is reviewing applications to fill an open public-works position; Attorney Josh Herman advised the board that the village could make a temporary appointment now and ratify it at the next meeting to provide immediate relief to the department.
Board members were reminded of routine operations: Christmas lights are being taken down and brush pick-up occurs on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. The public-works staffing item will be on the February agenda for formal action.
