City staff propose reclassifications across departments with ~$89,800 cost impact

Budget staff presented a package of position reclassifications affecting police communications, fire administration and EMS, municipal court clerks and animal control; staff estimated the total financial impact at $89,800 and said these are existing positions with changed duties, not new headcount.
During the July 30 meeting budget staff reviewed a list of proposed personnel reclassifications that would alter job duties and pay grades for existing positions across several departments.
Beckman said the requests include reclassifying two police communications operators to team leads; changing an administrative assistant in fire administration to an executive secretary; reclassifying nine firefighter II positions to fire engineers; creating level 2 and 3 classifications in municipal court; and converting a part-time kennel assistant in animal control to full time. She said these are reclassifications of existing positions and not new hires and reported a total financial impact of $89,800.
"Again, these are all existing position[s] within the city. So there's no new position. We're just asking to change the job duties of these positions," Beckman said as she reviewed the line items and their listed financial impacts.
Council asked no substantive clarifying questions during that portion of the presentation; staff said the detailed costs are listed slide-by-slide in the packet and will be included in the materials ahead of council action.
